Hunza is a week of big mountains that never stop being surprising: Rakaposhi over breakfast, a turquoise lake made by a landslide, bridges built from planks and cable, and a road that climbs to the highest paved border crossing in the world. Hunza Valley
Day 1Fly to Gilgit, drive to Karimabad+
Mountain flight to Gilgit, then up the Karakoram Highway with a stop at the Rakaposhi viewpoint.
Day 2Baltit & Altit forts+
Two old royal forts, the lanes of Karimabad, and sunset from the Eagle's Nest.
Day 3Attabad & Gulmit+
Out on the lake by boat, then Gulmit's carpet workshops and a walk around Borith lake.
Day 4Passu & Hussaini+
The Passu Cones, the glacier viewpoint and the famous wobbly bridge.
Day 5Khunjerab Pass+
Climb to 4,693 m on the China border. Yaks, marmots and very cold ears.
Day 6Hopper glacier & a family kitchen+
Into Nagar to see the Hopper glacier, then cook chapshuro with a local family.
Day 7Fly home+
Back to Gilgit for the flight to Islamabad. If the weather grounds flights, we drive.
