Chitral sits in a long green valley under Tirich Mir, the highest peak of the Hindu Kush. It's wilder and less visited than Hunza, with a warm, proud culture, hot springs, polo grounds everywhere and a road that climbs towards the Shandur Pass. Come for the hiking, stay for the apricots.

Chitral & the Hindu Kush
Day 1Fly to Chitral+
Short mountain flight (or a scenic drive through Swat and the Lowari tunnel). Evening at Chitral Fort and the Shahi mosque.
Day 2Birmoghlasht+
Up to the old summer palace for the best view of Tirich Mir, then the bazaar.
Day 3Garam Chashma+
A valley of hot springs and trout streams, with a long soak before dinner.
Day 4Booni to Mastuj+
North along the river to Mastuj fort and its polo ground.
Day 5Laspur & Shandur+
A day walk in the Laspur valley, or up to Shandur lake in season.
Day 6Back to Chitral+
Slow drive back with orchard stops and a last Chitrali dinner.
Day 7Fly home+
Morning flight to Islamabad.
